Mentoring Central Launches Upgraded Training Course Management System
DURHAM, NC (February 13, 2015)–Mentoring Central, a wholly-owned subsidiary of innovation Research & Training (iRT)–a behavioral sciences research company, today announced the launch of its upgraded on-line learning management system aimed at enhancing and expanding training opportunities for mentors working with youth.
Available at no additional cost to current Mentoring Central customers, the system provides mentors with easy access to a variety of self-paced training courses. The system also provides mentoring program staff who serve as course administrators with the ability to enroll new mentors to training, create customized training reports and monitor course progress, all through one central portal. The system is administered by iRT’s professional IT staff.
“In upgrading this system, we wanted to ensure that we are providing our customers with one of the most comprehensive and robust training systems available”, said Dr. Janis Kupersmidt, president and founder of iRT. “Not only is the system simple and easy to use, but it provides our customers with a highly effective and efficient way of managing their work flow and training of their volunteers.”
Currently, the new system hosts five training courses for volunteers interested in mentoring youth, including three courses designed to prepare community-based mentors and two courses designed for mentors working in schools or other youth development programs, all of which are research-based and developed by iRT scientists. Course topics are diverse and range from information on pre-match expectations to best practices in maintaining a mentoring relationship. Each course is interactive with media-rich content. Courses offer engaging activities, self-reflective journaling, scenario-based lessons, downloadable tip sheets, and assessment quizzes.
Over the next few months, Mentoring Central will continue to update the system. “We want to ensure that our customers have the most thorough and rich user experience”, said Kupersmidt.
